APL is an organization that has dedicated its focus
and energies to working with professional educators. To
this end we are committed to assisting educational organizations
in planning and implementing a meaningful
and ongoing staff development program.
It is becoming increasingly evident that school districts
and organizations that identify and implement comprehensive
staff development programs are reaping some
interesting and exciting dividends. Results include staff
morale that is on the upswing, meaningful and positive
communication, productive time on task management,
improved planning and organization, consistent and positive
classroom management, application of proven classroom

INSTRUCTIONAL SKILLS WORKSHOP
(5 Days)
If you are looking for a staff inservice experience that is going to result
in an immediate and positive impact on both student and staff performance
look no further. This baseline staff development workshop has enjoyed rave
reviews from every organization that has offered it.
This five-day workshop is designed to provide your staff with a top-notch
professional growth experience focusing on instructional and classroom management
skills.
Some outcomes that participants can expect are:
- Increased student time on task.
- Improved student behavior.
- Improved student performance.
- Insights Into and options for classroom organization.
- Motivation of students.
- Classroom management techniques that work.
As part of the Instructional Skills Workshop, APL Associates makes available to participants TEACHING:THE BOOK as a resource in support of the instructional skills and strategies taught in the five day workshop.
INSTRUCTIONAL SKILLS - LEVEL II
(3 Days)
This three-day workshop is designed for those staff members who have completed
the five day Instructional Skills Workshop. It is not a review of the five
days but rather an extension and introduction to new and exciting skills
and strategies.
These new skills and strategies will be pursued with the underlying goal
of meeting the specific
classroom needs of each participant.
Areas of concentration are:
- Goal setting.
- Grouping of students for instructional purposes.
- Test construction and administration.
- Efficient time management.
- Instructional skills refresher.
THE ADMINISTRATOR'S WORKSHOP
(3 Days)
This three-day workshop is designed for administrators and supervisors.
It focuses on those behaviors and skills that result in success
and an improved building climate.
Its purpose is to provide administrators and supervisors an opportunity to assess
the operational and organizational structure of their buildings and through
this assessment to reaffirm, refine, or restructure.
Some results that participants can expect are:
- A meaningful process for coordinating teacher input and building decision
making.
- A proven process for setting and communicating goals.
- Strategies for working successfully with staff.
- An exciting student management process.
- Strategies that result in improved time on task.
- A process that results in improved building management and maintenance.
EFFECTIVE STUDENT MANAGEMENT /DISCIPLINE
(2 Days)
A two-day workshop designed to meet the need expressed by educators as one
of their most pressing concerns.
The processes and strategies delivered in the workshop sessions are practical,
can be applied back at the school site immediately and can be applied with
a minimum of effort and really work.
A must workshop for teachers, administrators, teacher aides and monitors.
Some outcomes that participants can expect are:
- Instructional techniques and strategies that facilitate the effective
management of student behavior.
- Improved classroom climate.
- Strategies that result in effective and efficient time management.
- A process that results in students managing their own behaviors.
HOMEWORK: A PRODUCTIVE INSTRUCTIONAL STRATEGY
(1 Day)
It is generally agreed that homework can be a powerful strategy that when
used appropriately can positively impact student success.
This one-day workshop is designed to share those strategies, techniques
and guidelines that result in homework being managed appropriately and productively.
If you are looking for techniques that work - look no further.
Some outcomes that participants can expect are:
- Define homework.
- Describe the difference between in-class and out-of-class practice.
- Describe a process of assigning homework.
- Describe processes of managing both quantity and time.
- Describe a process of how to get students to do homework.

Jean, David, and John's Experience in Education
The managing partners and key trainers for APL Associates have a
rich background of experience that they bring to the sessions.
Dr. Jean T. Anastasio has been an elementary teacher, special
education teacher and supervisor, field coordinator of The Syracuse
University Regional Resource Center, instructor for graduate and
undergraduate programs at Syracuse University, Director of Pupil
Personnel Services for public schools, and staff developer.
David J. Perry has been a secondary classroom teacher of History,
Department Chairman for social studies in the public schools, Principal
at
the middle school and junior high school levels, education professor in
the
State of New York University system, and staff developer.
John Zalonis is an associate of APL. John has been a secondary classroom teacher of Biology, Advanced Biology and AP Biology, an Education Professor and Supervisor of Student Teachers at Lycoming College in Pennsylvania, head football coach at the high school level, assistant coach at the college level and a staff developer.
